Mango-Luscious Green Smoothie

March 29th, 2009 · View Comments

This is perhaps my favorite green smoothie recipe ever!  I made it up today, with ingredients that I had laying around the kitchen.  As it turns out, this method of food preparation seems to be a great of getting those creative juices flowing.  Here are the ingredients:

1 banana

6-8 figs

1 mango

1 handful spinach

Juice of 1 orange

cold water

6-8 ice cubes

First, I tore the bananas and figs into smaller pieces, then I blended those together with the orange juice.  Then I added the sliced up mango and let that blend up a little bit, adding the spinach soon after.  I added about a cup or so of cold water and then finally the ice cubes at the very end.

I was immediately impressed by the light green color.  The photos don’t quite capture how bright and pretty it turned out to be.  Sometimes green smoothies don’t turn out looking so great, but this time it came out quite lovely!

Once I took my first sip, I knew this one was a keeper!  The texture was so smooth and creamy, and light in my mouth.  The flavor was fantastic!  The mango wasn’t completely ripe, but the flavor was still strong.  The figs and banana sweetened it up, and all the ingredients made for a nutritious, fiber-rich meal.

I’ll definitely be making this one again!  I can grow all the ingredients in Costa Rica, too!

  • Yum!!
  • I made this tonight, it was super tasty! Thanks Heather!
  • Awesome, I'm glad you liked it!
  • I wish I knew the trick to finding a ripe mango. This post gives me a hankering for mango-tomato salsa, for some reason.
  • I think its all about how soft it is. You don't want a mango that is too mushy, but not too hard either. The mango I used in this recipe, wasn't ultra ripe, in fact it was a bit on the unripe side. Still, it tasted wonderful!
