Harvest Green Smoothie

September 17th, 2009 · View Comments

This year, Joe and I are trying to eat the majority of our food from our local farmer’s market.  As a result, we’ve been enjoying a lot of delicious, fresh fruits and vegetables that, when in season, taste so much more wonderful than if we were buying them January.

Peaches are one of my favorite fruits, and this year’s harvest has brought in so many delicious flavors!  I used them along with plums in my green smoothie recipe and opted out of the usual banana base.  It was wonderful!  Here is the recipe:

3-4 Peaches

5-6 Plums, small

2-4 Chard Leaves

1-2 cups Frozen Berries

Adjust ingredient portions, to fit your tastes, and if desired add a date or two for that potassium kick.

I love the creamy texture that my Blendtec gives me in my smoothies.  It’s been a lot of fun making different recipes with it.  I made some amazing peach salsa recently, so check back soon for the recipe!

I don't know if I told you or you read it on my blog, but I planted plums, peaches, apricots, and cherries last year. I should be getting fruit from them in 2011 - I can't wait to juice them with your recipes! -R
  • Wow, I'm so jealous! Let me know if you'll need any help during harvest! ;)
  • Sounds divine and so nutritious! :)

    Cheers XOXO,

  • Thanks Kristen! It sure picked me up after drinking it!
  • I always love your recipe pictorials!

I've been going to town lately on the local plums too, and throwing them into my green smoothies.
  • Aren't they wonderful? I still have so many that I need to go through. They're perfect in smoothies!
