Backcountry Boarding, Babies and Beautiful Spring!

March 28th, 2010 · View Comments

Happy Spring, everyone!  I hope all of you are enjoying the gorgeous weather we’ve been having.  As always, we like to take our enjoyment to a higher elevation.  Yesterday, instead of hitting up the slopes on a busy Saturday at the resort, we decided to go for a hike in the back country. Here is the trail that we hiked up, snowshoes on feet and snowboards strapped to our backs.

The weather could not have been more perfect.  In fact, I was getting quite warm!  This is definitely a workout, and my legs were feeling it.

Gorgeous scenery.

Stopping for lunch.

Digging my sunscreen out of my pack.  I think I put on two layers, this time.

My mountain man.

At this point, you are probably wondering what the whole baby business is all about.  No, I’m not pregnant. :p  But I do have babies!  My little heirloom tomato seedlings finally sprouted!

Aren’t they cute?

As much as I love winter, I’m very excited for Spring.  I’m even more excited to plant a garden and grow my own food!  It’s been about 4 years since I have done this.  Next on the list for starting seeds are bell peppers, kale and basil.  I can’t wait!!!

So get out there and enjoy the sun and snow while its still there!  It’s warming up fast.

Have a wonderful, Springtime Sunday, everyone!

What a gorgeous snow day! Thanks for stopping by my blog, I'm digging yours and those lil heirloom tomatoes. What variety are they? We're working on our garden fence today =) I have all the same things on our list to grow, I didn't do bell peppers last year, so really excited about those, yum!
  • Well, I've got three varieties in there: Black Krim, Persimmon and Costoluto. I'm soooo excited for all our homegrown veggies. Good luck with your garden and thanks for the nice comment! :)
  • Gorgeous!!! And what a fab way to start the babies!
  • It's working out great, and thanks!
  • Gorgeous photos! I love the plants growing in the egg container! Great way to use it up :)

Thanks for all your contest entries! :)
  • Isn't that a great idea? A friend told me about the egg cartons this year. You can put them right in the ground and they will decompose. Pretty cool, huh? Thanks for the comment!
  • Thanks for stopping by and for your great comment! I love this post and the pics...so beautiful!
  • Thanks Averie! And your welcome. I love reading your blog. :)
  • Oh my gosh, I miss the snow! We had none in March. First time in history! Looks so beautiful!!
  • It's snowing again, today! We'll probably make it up snowboarding tomorrow. :)
  • It's funny to see snow in a post about spring. And, those little seedlings are so cute :-)
  • I know its kind of goofy. Not many other people would spend a perfectly lovely Spring day hiking in the snow. Haha!

My babies have already grown a lot taller. I've got bell peppers planted now, too!

So awesome! Great pics. Look like you two had a great time. did you get to use your boards, or did you pack them just in case you got to?
  • It was really fun! We did use our boards, I should have talked more about that. It wasn't the best snowboarding as the snow was very heavy. But it was still different and fun. I was really surprised how difficult it was to make the turns. Probably a combination of heavy snow with ice underneath and lack of vertical. Still, a great way to spend the day!
